The Date and Time: Tuesday, August 22, 2017   11:30 AM to 2PM
The Event: DevourFest food film festival's press launch of the October 25 – 29 programme in Wolfville Nova Scotia.
The Venue: GBC Chef's House
The Target Audience: media (food, wine, films, etc.)
The Quote/Background: Devour! Organizers were in town to launch and preview the 2017 program in Wolfville. There is also to be a consumer tasting function in Toronto on Thursday. Special guests today included actor Gordon Pinsent, chef Rob Blumer, and other chefs who will be part of the 7th annual festival, including George Brown students. American Express has named Devour! One of the "Top Festivals for Foodies in the World". Over the years, both the number of films and gastronomic tours/seminars have dramatically increased, all involving food and wine with special mentions to local beer and wines, spirits, local cheeses, and local seafood. More details are at www.devourfest.com which has the full program as of August 29. I can assure you, after my three years of attending, you won't find a better collection of new food film docs and new food dramatic films anyplace else: 99 events, 72 films, 3 celebrity chef dinners, 23 workshops, 22 tasting tours, and 20 special events for dinners and parties.

The Wines: Today we were served the latest version (close to rose in colour) of Benjamin Bridge Nova 7, one of the best sparkling muscats in the world. It is actually mostly Nova Scotia muscat with a few other aromatic varieties (closely kept secret), to create a semi-sparkler like the Italian muscato. Four Stars. Brother Matt Jones, as bearded as ever, was on hand with his spirited cocktails.

The Food: there were cheese platters and two types of Nova Scotia seafood – NS scallops with onion relish atop fried pancetta slices, and NS lobster tacos – all pulled together by George Brown students.
