April 18/11: Remy Pannier turns 200 with new Loire wines

The Time and Date: Monday, April 18, 2011  3 PM to 6PM
The Event:  A meeting with Karine Dugue, winemaker, Remy Pannier, to
taste the new vintages marking the company's 200th anniversary of
winemaking in the Loire.
The Venue: Café Nicole, Novotel
The Target Audience: wine media and some trade.
The Availability/Catalogue: all wines are available or will be.
The Quote/Background:  Remy Pannier is the Loire Valley's largest wine
producer (about 15% of all production), with markets in 40 countries.
It is directly owned as a co-op with over 800 grape growers and
vineyard owners.
The Wines:

-Remy Pannier XNoir Brut Rose NV ($18.95 in SAQ), made mainly from the
Chenin Noir grape.

The Food: a variety of cheeses from The Art of Cheese, including
Paradiso (Monforte), Grey Owl from Quebec, Ewenity Feta, and La Tomme
du Haut Richelieu (Quebec). All were paired with Remy white wines and
the rose. Notes were also supplied. Platters of food included croquet
monsieur, smoked salmon, shrimp rolls, bacon and scallops, olives,
other amuse bouche.
The Downside: this was a walkaround tasting held after the A list's
lunch.
The Upside: a chance to talk to Karine about the new style of wines.
